By 2020, the number of people aged 60 years and older outnumbered children younger than 5 years.
Over the next three decades, the number of older persons worldwide is projected to more than double, reaching more than 1.5 billion persons in 2050 and 80% of them will be living in low- and middle-income countries.
Prevalence figures based on a survey of 83,034 people in 57 countries found one in every two people held moderately or highly ageist attitudes (i.e. stereotypes and prejudice).

18-24 March Seniors Week Geriatric Rehabilitation Seminars-5 was held on 22 March 2022 at Başkent University Prof. Dr. İhsan Doğramacı Conference Hall. In the seminar chaired by Prof. Dr. Zafer ERDEN and Prof. Dr. Baran YOSMAOĞLU, Prof. Dr. Hüseyin DORUK, Prof. Dr. Selda BAŞAR, Prof. Dr. Z. Özlem YÜRÜK, Prof. Dr. Filiz CAN and Dr. Pt. Reyhan ÖZGÖBEK made speeches about geriatric rehabilitation. In the seminar, our teachers gave valuable information about geriatric and geriatric evaluation, balance problems and falls in the elderly, physical fitness and exercise in the elderly, telerehabilitation in the elderly and care criteria in the elderly, care models and legislation.
